Following the landmark decision in Bachan Singh v. State of Punjab, the Supreme Court of India has maintained that the death penalty is constitutionally permissible, but has also placed strict limits on its application through legal safeguards such as the “rarest of the rare” standard and procedural rules. While global trends suggest a gradual move toward the abolition or
